Lewis House & Advocacy
Child Care
Our Lewis House shelters are in need of volunteers to help with child care while moms participate in group sessions. Volunteer minimum age is 16. We ask volunteers to be willing to commit to volunteering with us at least one shift per week on an ongoing basis.
Shelter Worker
The shelter worker volunteer position supports our advocates and clients by running the day-to-day operations of the two Lewis Houses, located in Hastings and Eagan. We ask that volunteers be willing to commit to at least one shift per week for 6-12 months minimum, as extensive training is provided.
Sexual Assault Services Advocate
In order to volunteer with our Sexual Assault Services program, you are required to have or obtain the 40-hour state mandated Sexual Assault Advocacy training certificate.
Court Advocacy
Our Court Advocate Volunteers help support women who are survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault when they attend court hearings. These hearings are held Monday through Friday during business hours. We are looking for individuals with initiative, good communication skills, empathy and a flexible daytime schedule. An understanding of the civil/criminal justice system is a plus but we are willing to train the right person.
Internships
Our Eagan and Hastings Lewis House shelters are in need of interns to help with their daily operation and to support advocacy staff in providing resources, referral, and support to individuals and families who have experienced domestic or sexual violence. We ask that interns be willing to commit a minimum of 250 hours over the course of their internship.

Domestic Violence Support Group Co-Facilitator
Volunteer Opportunity
Domestic Violence Support Group Co-Facilitator – Eagan
Our Eagan Lewis House is in need of volunteers to co-facilitate weekly domestic violence support groups for the women staying in shelter and other 360 Communities clients. All volunteers should be have empathy, good communication skills, and demonstrate commitment to the agency’s mission statement and core values at all times. The mission statement is “360 Communities delivers safety and stability that improves lives.”
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate safe, supportive, and inclusive support group sessions
- Prepare established curriculum and materials for each session
- Create an atmosphere of welcoming and listening in a non-judgmental manner
- Explain group guidelines and ensure adherence
- Guide and manage the session
- Provide participants with information regarding resources in the community
- Obtain feedback surveys
- Document attendance and give to staff at the end of the session
Qualifications
- Value diversity and work well with individuals of all cultures
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- 6-12 month commitment required
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to attend required training

Lewis House Miscellaneous Needs
Volunteer Opportunity
Our Lewis Houses are in need of volunteers who will come wrap presents for the women and children staying in the shelter over the Holiday season. Shifts are flexible, and can be completed anytime throughout the available days. We also welcome any volunteer groups.

Food Shelf & Resource Center
Internships
Our Burnsville and Rosemount Food Shelves and Family Resource Centers are in need of interns to help with their daily operation and to support staff in providing resources, referral, and support to individuals and families who come to receive food. We ask that interns be willing to commit a minimum of 150 hours over the course of their internship.
Rosemount Family Resource Center & Food Shelf
Our Rosemount Family Resource Center serves as an welcoming place for community members to gather, work with volunteers and staff, received needed food, and plan their individual paths to success. Volunteers build trusting relationships with individuals and families and deliver safety and stability that improves lives.
Burnsville Family Resource Center, Warehouse, & Food Shelf
Our Family Resource Center in Burnsville serves as an open, welcoming place for community members to gather, work with volunteers and staff, connect with resources, and plan their paths to success. Volunteers build trusting relationships with individuals and families and deliver safety and stability that improves lives.
Messiah Community Food Shelf
The Lakeville Food Shelf is located in Messiah Lutheran Church and is dedicated to providing dignity and respect to all who enter through our doors. We are looking for committed volunteers willing to help us each week on an ongoing basis.
Farmington Food Shelf
Our Farmington Food Shelf serves the community of Farmington and the surrounding area with access to healthy food and other resources. With a newly remodeled shopping model, volunteers get to interact with members of the community and empower them to reach their goals.
Shepherd of the Valley Food Shelf
The Apple Valley Food Shelf, located in Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church (near the MN Zoo) serves as an open, welcoming place for community members to gather, work with volunteers and receive needed food support. Volunteers build trusting relationships with individuals and families giving them dignity as they access the food shelf.

Donated Retail Food Pick-Up Needed
We have volunteer opportunities to help us pick up donated food items (A.K.A. Rescue Food) from a local retail grocer in Rosemount and/or Apple Valley. Minimal exposure to other people. You will be asked to wear a mask throughout your shift and follow COVID safety protocols.
- You will need to use your own vehicle and gas, plus carry insurance on your vehicle.
- Be at pick up site on your scheduled day to pick up the donated food and immediately bring it back to the 360 Communities Rosemount Food Shelf to unload, weigh and put away in the appropriate temperature zone.
- Must be able to lift up to about 40 pounds.
- Time commitment may vary from week to week depending on the quantity of food the retailer is providing us. The average time commitment is 1- 2 hours per week.
- Help unload, weigh and put away items in their appropriate temperature zones.
- Training will be provided prior to volunteering.
- Monday Mornings – beginning at about 9 am for approximately 1 – 2 hours, depending on the amount of food being donated each week. We are looking for one volunteer on this day. Pick up location is in Rosemount
- Tuesday Mornings – beginning at about 9 am for approximately 1 – 2 hours, depending on the amount of food being donated each week. We are looking for one volunteer on this day. Pick up location is in Apple Valley
- Wednesday Mornings – beginning at about 9 am for approximately 1 – 2 hours, depending on the amount of food being donated each week. We are looking for one volunteer on this day. Pick up location is in Rosemount

Shepherd of the Valley Food Shelf

Apple Valley/SOTV Food Shelf Occasional Volunteers Needed:
Our volunteers stock, sort food, pre-pack food orders for clients, and perform other miscellaneous duties that assist in the operations of the Food Shelf. Morning shift volunteers need to be able to lift up to 40 pounds; afternoon volunteers up to 20 pounds or the equivalent of a full grocery bag. Training will be provided. COVID-19 safety protocols will be adhered to, including hand-washing, social distancing as much as possible, and mandatory masking.
Occasional volunteers are expected to volunteer once or twice every 4 to 6 weeks.
Shifts Available:
- 8:30 am – 12:30 pm or 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm Tuesday or Thursday
Messiah Community Food Shelf
Volunteer Shifts Available
NAPS (Nutritional Assistance Program for Seniors) Volunteers
This volunteer supports the monthly NAPS (Nutritional Assistance Program for Seniors) food program at our food shelf. Duties include providing pre-boxed food to qualified senior clients, paperwork tracking of clients, and assisting eligible clients in enrollment. Volunteers who are friendly, organized, and detail-oriented are encouraged to apply. Training will be provided. Volunteers need to be willing to make a monthly, 2-hour commitment. COVID-19 safety protocols will be adhered to, including wearing a face mask, social distancing, and hand washing.
Shifts Available:
- 9:15 am – 11:30 am, 4th Tuesday of each month
Shift Leader
This volunteer would lead a designated 3-hour shift each week. They would be responsible for the operations of the food shelf during their designated shift, and assist other volunteers with any help or training. This volunteer would also implement new procedures as required by Messiah and 360 Communities, and would attend agency meetings. This volunteer would work closely with, and receive support from, the site coordinator. Training will be provided. Volunteers need to be willing to make a weekly, 3-hour commitment. COVID-19 safety protocols will be adhered to, including wearing a face mask, social distancing, and hand washing.

- 12 pm – 3 pm, Thursdays
Family Resource Center and Food Shelf Intern
Internships Available
*Burnsville and Rosemount Locations, currently accepting for Summer 2021.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate commitment to the agency’s mission statement and core values at all times. The mission statement is “360 Communities delivers safety and stability that improves lives.”
- Greet customers, staff, and guests as they enter the building
- Answer phone calls, including scheduling resource center and food shelf appointments
- Assist customers in completing the necessary pre-appointment paperwork
- Receive donations and deliveries
- Ensure quality of food shelf deliveries through food inspection and sorting
- Help identify customer needs and connect customers with relevant resources
- Assist customers throughout their food appointment including bagging, weighing food, and loading groceries into customers’ vehicles
- Maintain organization of the food shelf, ensuring shelves are well stocked and clean
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as needed or requested
Preferred Qualifications/Requirements:
- Minimum of 150 hours required
- Experience or knowledge of socially, economically, or culturally diverse populations
- Be a motivated self-starter, with the ability to self-direct
- Ability to non-judgmentally listen
- Maintain a passionate desire to help others better their lives
- Strong oral communication skills
- Ability to adhere to strict safety, confidentiality guidelines, and professional boundaries
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Bilingual (preferred)
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Food shelf, warehouse, and office environment
- Exposure to machines: fax, copies, computers, scanners, printer, etc.
- Minimal noise level, but could get loud
- Exposure to general public in an office and service setting
*Our internships are available in the fall, spring, and summer, coinciding with school semesters
Donations
You are welcome to drop off items to our food shelves during their open hours.
- Our food shelf is always in need of paper and/or plastic bags to be used for groceries. Please feel free to drop off any gently used and clean bags to our food shelves.
- We are also always in need of food donations. The top 5 food items are canned fish & meat, cooking and baking items, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables plus rice, pasta and cereals.
- We are always in need of other personal care items. This includes baby care items such as food, formula, diapers and wipes, and cleaning supplies as well as hygiene products such as deodorant, toothpaste/tooth brush, shampoo, conditioner, and soap.
Group Volunteering Opportunities
At certain times of year, 360 Communities hosts campaigns or events that require large groups of volunteers. If you are part of an organization or club looking for opportunities to give back to your community, these types of events are a great way to do so.
