Statement regarding domestic violence killing in Castle Rock Township

We are saddened to hear of another loss in our community related to domestic violence. 26-year-old Tayah Giles was fatally shot on her birthday, December 24th. There were around eight people in the home when the incident happened, including two children who are now left without their mother. Our hearts are with Tayah’s family and friends as they mourn this loss and navigate the next steps.

Intimate partner homicides represent the most extreme and final form of abuse, often preceded by years of psychological, physical, sexual, and/or financial control. The devastating impacts of such extreme violence spread across our communities, and it will take all of us to work together to create long-lasting, sustainable change in our communities. Together, we can support survivors, hold those who cause harm accountable, help children grow without fear, and create safer communities where families can experience all of life’s moments with joy and peace.
