Volunteer Spotlight: Linda Johnson

Grounded in gratitude

Linda Johnson is a steady, compassionate presence at 360 Communities. For over a decade, she has generously given her time, energy, and heart to help strengthen our community, embodying the true spirit of volunteerism.

Linda first got involved after seeing a call for volunteers in the local Burnsville paper. At the time, she worked at the Burnsville Fairview Clinic, where they regularly collected gifts for 360 Communities’ Armful of Love holiday gift program. That connection sparked something in her. “I really wanted to be part of the program,” she recalls.

Linda never looked back. She began volunteering with Armful of Love and has remained a dedicated part of that effort each holiday season. She added the food shelf to her volunteer commitments in 2014, helping schedule clients for food shelf appointments.

Volunteer commitment

Over the years, Linda has also stepped in with data entry, assisted at the front desk, and currently helps distribute “to-go bags” to food shelf guests in Burnsville. Throughout her time at 360 Communities, she’s witnessed change and growth. She remembers when the organization operated out of a smaller office at the east end of the building, and she remained committed even during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I’m glad I stayed healthy to continue volunteering during that time,” she says.

Inspired through relationships

For Linda, the inspiration is in the people she serves. “I am rewarded by watching the smiles or tears of joy on people’s faces,” she shares. Whether helping a family during the holidays or simply handing a birthday cake to a child, their reactions leave lasting impacts. Gratitude grounds her perspective. “I feel thankful every day for all that I have after hearing many of the people’s stories.” Linda offers this simple encouragement to those considering volunteering at 360 Communities: “You feel a part of a very giving community with both staff and other volunteers. Some days you go home tired – but fulfilled!”

“I am blessed to be able to help community members no matter what their circumstances might be.”
