Celebrating 25 years of dedication: Chris Kyrola-Miller’s journey with 360 Communities

Throughout Chris Kyrola-Miller’s 25-year career journey with 360 Communities, she has been committed to helping families and students lay the foundation for a bright future.

A friend’s wife introduced her to 360 Communities, prompting her to apply for a school-based family support worker position. She had a criminal justice and human services background and found the transition to working with youth and families both natural and fulfilling. She began her career in Burnsville, excited by the potential of the Partners for Success® program, which was then in its early stages of development.

Over the years, Chris has worn many hats within the organization, each adding a unique layer to her expertise. From advocating in court for victims of domestic violence to supporting students at various schools, her roles have been as diverse as they are impactful. The variety in her roles and the ability to adapt to new challenges have kept her engaged and motivated. In her current family support worker position, Chris appreciates how her work bridges the gap between home and school, ensuring students receive the comprehensive support they need. Her criminal justice background complements her human services education, allowing her to balance empathy with the necessity for structure.

One of the most rewarding aspects of her work is seeing students graduate, often against significant odds and sometimes the first in their families. Today, she values the everyday interactions with high school students that build trust and support, whether by offering snacks, listening to their concerns, or helping them navigate life’s challenges.

In her two-and-a-half decades with 360 Communities, Chris Miller has walked alongside countless families and individuals to improve their lives. She is a powerful reminder of how our dedicated staff impact generations. Her commitment to holistic, empathetic service continues to inspire those around her.

Sarah’s Story

Chris recalls a student named Sarah who showed remarkable resilience and determination over her time in high school. She faced challenges, including conflicts with peers and the complexities of being on probation. However, with the support of Chris and other school staff, Sarah began to turn things around. As her senior year progressed, she shared more about her personal life, including her pregnancy, and worked closely with her school support team to create a plan for her future.

Sarah focused on achieving her goals, including completing her education and preparing for the birth of her child. Chris connected her with various community resources and programs and helped her navigate the challenges of employment, housing, and childcare. She also helped Sarah develop her relationship management skills, particularly with her mother and the baby’s father. Sarah used effective communication strategies and set healthy boundaries with her mother and her baby’s father.

Chris helped Sarah plan for life after the birth of her child. Despite the obstacles she faced, Sarah never lost sight of her goals. She successfully graduated and secured a stable job at an early childhood center. Sarah continues to plan for her future, considering more education and possibly entering the medical field. She is strong and determined to provide a stable future for her child.
