360 Communities honored with Amicus Curiae Award for housing work
On August 9th, the Minnesota First Judicial District Dakota County judges honored 360 Communities with the Amicus Curiae Award for our dedication to supporting stable and affordable housing for families through our participation in Dakota County’s Housing Court.
Eviction court hearing support
In 2022, 360 Communities teamed up with other nonprofits and Dakota County at eviction court hearings to provide tenants with access to financial aid, tangible resources, legal resources, and more. Because an eviction goes on a tenant’s record and becomes a barrier to securing future stable housing, this Housing Court collaboration seeks to resolve disputes and improve tenants’ long-term housing prospects.
360 Communities’ housing support workers meet with tenants and explain the eviction court process step-by-step. They connect them with community resources, help them apply for assistance from Dakota County, and discuss other affordable housing options. In the event that eviction is unavoidable, we inform tenants about the stabilizing resources available to them.
This innovative collaboration has reduced the number of evictions in Dakota County, improved outcomes of eviction cases for tenants and landlords, and ensured tenants were connected with representation and resources that promote long-term housing stability.
The Honorable Tracy Perzel nominated 360 Communities, saying we are a key participant in Dakota County’s Housing Court. “Their services are instrumental in stabilizing families and our community,” said Perzel.
Initiative earns national recognition
Additionally, the National Association of Counties recently recognized this Dakota County Eviction Court Housing Clinic with an achievement award for its innovative work. 360 Communities is proud to partner in this initiative, which produces better outcomes for tenants and landlords.
