Statement regarding Burnsville domestic violence killing

Our community has experienced another loss of life due to domestic violence. Eight-year-old Amir Demarion Harden was trying to protect his mother when he was shot and killed by his father. Our hearts are with Amir’s mother and siblings who witnessed this tragedy, as well as other family members as they mourn this loss. We also recognize the impacts of this devastating loss that reach beyond the family to friends, teachers, colleagues, professionals, and our neighbors across Dakota County who are still processing the recent domestic violence homicides that occurred in our communities. Our thoughts are with you all.

In Dakota County, at least six people have lost their lives due to domestic violence-related homicide in 2024 alone. Our communities have been filled with terror and tragedy because of the violence happening in and around their homes, the place where we are supposed to feel safest. Children are growing up in homes where they are frightened and going to school wondering where their friends are. Help us put an end to this.

360 Communities remains committed to engaging communities to prevent violence and promote healthy relationships. Together, we can support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable. Together, we can build communities where children thrive and are not afraid of what might happen next. Together, we are stronger, and together, we can create communities where domestic violence isn’t the norm.
