Statement on the Chauvin verdict
It is a deeply emotional time. The guilty verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin provides a momentary relief from the extreme tensions felt by many and provides a sense of accountability. However, the outcome of this trial will not restore the life taken from George Floyd. Nor will it fix the systemic racism ingrained in our communities. Too many families mourn the loss of loved ones from tragedies in our systems. There is much work to be done.
It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure real change happens to address anti-blackness and oppression. We will continue to have difficult and honest conversations that expand our own awareness of racial disparities. We will continue to seek tangible action that builds a more inclusive organization. We will continue to find our way in advocating for equity in the communities we serve.
Please take care of yourself and your neighbors as this work continues.
