Lewis House & Advocacy
Shelter Volunteer
The shelter worker volunteer position supports our advocates and clients by running the day-to-day operations at Lewis House. We ask that volunteers commit to at least one shift per week for 6-12 months minimum, as extensive training is provided.
Child Care
Our Lewis House shelter is in need of volunteers to help with child care while moms participate in group sessions. Volunteer minimum age is 16. We ask volunteers to be willing to commit to volunteering with us at least one shift per week on an ongoing basis.
Rescue/Donated Food Pick Up (Eagan)
This position is responsible for picking up donations at a local retail grocer in Eagan and bring back to the site location to unload, weigh, and put away in the appropriate temperature zones. This position does not work directly with victims/survivors, but may have minimal contact with shelter residents. does positively impact the families living in shelter. Training will be provided prior to volunteering.
Spring Yard Clean Up

Sexual Assault Services Advocate
Court Advocacy
Our Court Advocate Volunteers help support women who are survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault when they attend court hearings. These hearings are held Monday through Friday during business hours. We are looking for individuals with initiative, good communication skills, empathy and a flexible daytime schedule. An understanding of the civil/criminal justice system is a plus but we are willing to train the right person.
Internships
Our Eagan Lewis House shelter is in need of interns to help with their daily operation and to support advocacy staff in providing resources, referral, and support to individuals and families who have experienced domestic or sexual violence. We ask that interns be willing to commit a minimum of 250 hours over the course of their internship.
Lewis House Child Care
Volunteer Shifts Available
Summary
This position helps support women and children who are survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault by giving parents/caregivers a break and watching their children. Some childcare is needed while parents attend support groups or other meetings with staff; a wide range of ages could be in attendance and could be needed for individual children or multiple children at a time. Childcare is done inside the Lewis House (Eagan or Hastings) or could be in the outdoor spaces at Lewis House (depending on weather). Support groups are mostly held in the evenings throughout the week, but childcare needs could be anytime. Training will be provided.

Lewis House Court Advocate
Volunteer Opportunity
Summary
This role includes accompanying victims/survivors and providing emotional support during court hearings for both civil and criminal court. Court hearings could be held virtually, or in person at any of the three court houses in Dakota County: Apple Valley, Hastings, and West St. Paul. Hearings are typically scheduled for Monday-Friday during business hours. The Minnesota-mandated 40-hour advocacy training is required prior to volunteering in this role. This training is provided by 360 Communities twice per year, but training provided by another program will be accepted.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Using a trauma-informed approach, provide crisis intervention, safety planning, emotional support, and available resources to victims/survivors as needed.

- Assist and empower survivors to assert their rights and choices while advocating on their behalf for responsive, trauma-informed treatment.
- Interact professionally with others – law enforcement, court staff, shelter staff, and family members or friends while providing advocacy.
- Document client information, summary, follow up needs, and report information to 360 Communities staff.
- Maintain confidentiality, boundaries, and professional ethics.
- Follow all mandated reporter requirements.

Summary
This role includes facilitating support groups for individuals who have experienced domestic and sexual violence and/or their friends/family/concerned others. This could include adults, adolescents, and children. Support Groups are held at a variety of locations, and could be varying in size. Support Groups are typically offered in the evening, but daytime positions may be available. The Minnesota-mandated 40-hour advocacy training is required prior to volunteering in this role. This training is provided by 360 Communities twice per year, but training provided by another program will be accepted.

Domestic/Sexual Violence Advocate - Hospital

This role includes responding to South Metro area hospitals (Hastings and Eagan) to provide advocacy and support during forensic exams to victim/survivors who have experienced sexual/domestic violence. Hospital advocates sign up for a variety of on-call shifts (that could include evenings, weekends, overnights, holidays – this is a 24/7 service). The Minnesota-mandated 40-hour advocacy training is required prior to volunteering in this role. This training is provided by 360 Communities twice per year, but training provided by another program will be accepted.

Our Rosemount Family Resource Center serves as an welcoming place for community members to gather, work with volunteers and staff, received needed food, and plan their individual paths to success. Burnsville Family Resource Center, Warehouse, & Food Shelf
Our Family Resource Center in Burnsville serves as an open, welcoming place for community members to gather, work with volunteers and staff, connect with resources, and plan their paths to success. Messiah Community Food Shelf
The Lakeville Food Shelf is located in Messiah Lutheran Church and is dedicated to providing dignity and respect to all who enter through our doors. We are looking for committed volunteers willing to help us each week on an ongoing basis.
Farmington Food Shelf
Our Farmington Food Shelf serves the community of Farmington and the surrounding area with access to healthy food and other resources. With a newly remodeled shopping model, volunteers get to interact with members of the community and empower them to reach their goals.
Apple Valley Food Shelf
The Apple Valley Food Shelf, located in Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church (near the MN Zoo) serves as an open, welcoming place for community members to gather, work with volunteers and receive needed food support. Volunteers build trusting relationships with individuals and families giving them dignity as they access the food shelf.
Burnsville Family Resource Center & Food Shelf

There are a variety of volunteer positions available at our Burnsville Food Shelf and Resource Center. Please take a look below to see if we have any roles that interest you!
Food Shelf Volunteer
In this role you will receive incoming food orders and donations, date-check and sort donations, stock food shelf items as needed, identify inventory that is low, and assist in cleaning the stock room. You may also support the personal shopper by stocking, weighing carts, assisting with prepack orders and cleaning. We ask that volunteers in this position be able to lift 20-40 pounds.
Warehouse Volunteer
Warehouse volunteers are critical to our food shelf work because they manage our warehouse storage of food and ensure that our food shelf shelves are stocked with great food. In this role, volunteers check code dates on non-perishable food items, stock shelves, weigh incoming donations, and help put away deliveries. The warehouse role can vary depending on the day based on the donations and deliveries that day. Volunteers in this position should be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
Resource Support Worker
Volunteers in this role spend time connecting with families as they check in for their food shelf appointments and work to connect the families to any other resources that may benefit them. There is some computer work involved in this position. We provide training on the check-in process, our information system, and the resources in the area.
Data Entry Volunteer
This volunteer role has flexible scheduling and is perfect for anyone who is comfortable with entering data and working on the computer. Volunteers in this role would work on entering food shelf information that helps us ensure accurate family information and that we have the most up-to-date information for access to grant funding. This is a great way to use or build upon your talents and meet great people!
Scheduler Volunteer
Our scheduler volunteers work with our clients to find appointments that work for their schedules. This can be in-person before or after the client’s food shelf appointment or over the phone with clients when they call to schedule an appointment. Scheduler volunteers will also call clients back if they’ve left voicemails looking for an appointment when we were unable to answer their calls. This position involves usage of the computer, our information system, and the telephone. We will provide training that will help volunteers feel confident in this role.
Welcome Desk Support
We are seeking friendly, engaged volunteers at our Burnsville Food Shelf. Volunteers in the Welcome Desk Support role will partner with the front desk receptionist to provide a welcoming environment for clients who enter the food shelf and resource center. These volunteers would welcome guests, answer quick questions, pack to-go/urgent grocery bags for those without appointments, and help manage the needs of those who enter. This is a fun, fast-paced role that will get you informed and engaged in all that 360 Communities does.

Rosemount Family Resource Center
Volunteer Shifts Available
Our Family Resource Center and Food Shelf in Rosemount serves as an open, welcoming place for community members to gather, work with volunteers and staff, plan their individual paths to success and receive needed food. Staff and volunteers build trusting relationships with individuals and families in order to identify and remove barriers to help long-term self-sufficiency.
We are looking to fill the following volunteer opportunities and ask volunteers to be willing to commit to a minimum of one shift per week on an ongoing basis. Training is provided for all volunteer opportunities.
Donated Retail Food Pick-Up

Volunteers will help assist clients shop, showing them what is available and in what quantities they can take. Volunteers will help sort and stock shelves. Volunteers need to be willing to make a weekly, 3-hour commitment.

Shift Lead
This position requires working on a computer. Volunteers in this position will use the computer to make food shelf appointments, record food weights, and make reminder calls if necessary.

Warehouse Volunteers
In this role you will receive incoming food orders and donations, date check and sort donations, stock food shelf items as needed, identify inventory that is low, and assist in cleaning the stock room.

Rescue Drivers
This position is responsible for picking up donations at a local retail grocers and bringing them back to the site location to unload, weigh, and put away in the appropriate temperature zones.

Assistant Volunteer
Volunteers will help load groceries into vehicles if needed. They will be an extra hand where needed. Volunteers need to be willing to make a weekly, 3-hour commitment.

Language Translators
We have clients who speak a variety of languages. We welcome any volunteers who are multilingual, including those who speak Spanish, Russian, and/or Ukrainian.
Family Resource Center and Food Shelf Intern

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate commitment to the agency’s mission statement and core values at all times. The mission statement is “360 Communities delivers safety and stability that improves lives.”
- Greet customers, staff, and guests as they enter the building
- Answer phone calls, including scheduling resource center and food shelf appointments
- Assist customers in completing the necessary pre-appointment paperwork
- Receive donations and deliveries
- Ensure quality of food shelf deliveries through food inspection and sorting
- Help identify customer needs and connect customers with relevant resources
- Assist customers throughout their food appointment including bagging, weighing food, and loading groceries into customers’ vehicles
- Maintain organization of the food shelf, ensuring shelves are well stocked and clean
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as needed or requested
Preferred Qualifications/Requirements:
- Minimum of 150 hours required
- Experience or knowledge of socially, economically, or culturally diverse populations
- Be a motivated self-starter, with the ability to self-direct
- Ability to non-judgmentally listen
- Maintain a passionate desire to help others better their lives
- Strong oral communication skills
- Ability to adhere to strict safety, confidentiality guidelines, and professional boundaries
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
- Bilingual (preferred)
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Food shelf, warehouse, and office environment
- Exposure to machines: fax, copies, computers, scanners, printer, etc.
- Minimal noise level, but could get loud
- Exposure to general public in an office and service setting

Group Volunteering Opportunities
At certain times of year, 360 Communities hosts campaigns or events that require large groups of volunteers. If you are part of an organization or club looking for opportunities to give back to your community, these types of events are a great way to do so.
Donations
You are welcome to drop off items to our food shelves during their open hours.
- Our food shelf is always in need of paper and/or plastic bags to be used for groceries. Please feel free to drop off any gently used and clean bags to our food shelves.
- We are also always in need of food donations. The top 5 food items are canned fish & meat, cooking and baking items, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables plus rice, pasta and cereals.
- We are always in need of other personal care items. This includes baby care items such as food, formula, diapers and wipes, and cleaning supplies as well as hygiene products such as deodorant, toothpaste/tooth brush, shampoo, conditioner, and soap.
