October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and in recognition of the month, 360 Communities wants to highlight the story of one survivor.
Deb survived a decades-long abusive marriage. Lewis House staff walked alongside her and her daughter as they reclaimed their lives and wrote their own successful future. Read Deb’s story, in her own words, about how the Lewis House staff helped her transform from victim to victorious.
“Lewis House staff were the first ones that I ever opened up to about what I had been living through. That was a big deal. Immediately there was a confidence level built up and I felt safe.
It was incredible that somebody was listening to what I had to say because I had been made to feel for so long that somehow it was my fault that something was wrong with me. Lewis House helped me realize that no, my ex had a very serious problem.
They helped me shed the title of victim. That was the best thing they did. It was such a weight lifted off of me. The colors got brighter, the sun was brighter. I could hear myself laughing again.”
